WALNUT CREEK - Chico State senior Kevin Horan has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golfer of the Week for the week of October 19-25, it was announced on Thursday.
A resident of Marina Del Rey, Calif., Horan carded a 10-under par 206 to claim individual medalist honors at the Sonoma State Invitational earlier this week. His opening-round 6-under par 66 was the lowest of the tournament and gave him a lead he would not relinquish.
Horan was tied with Sonoma State All-American Jarin Todd after 36 holes. He birdied the 18th hole in Tuesday's final round to finish one shot ahead of Rollins College's Ian Gilley and two strokes ahead of Todd.
Horan, the 2007 CCAA Newcomer of the Year, helped Chico State to an impressive 14-shot victory over host Sonoma State. The Wildcats registered a 26-under par total of 838.
