HAWAII - Despite shooting ten strokes better than Monday’s low round, the Chico State men’s golf couldn’t budge out of ninth place and finished there at the Fourth Annual Dennis Rose Invitational played at the Mauna Lani North Course.
The Wildcats (297-294-284-875) shot 284 on Tuesday, nine strokes better than conference-member UC San Diego (293), but it wasn’t enough to jump over the Tritons (289-290-293-873) in the standings. CCAA-member Sonoma State (279-286-285), who the Wildcats beat last week at Sonoma’s own invitational, finished third among the 14 teams.
St. Edward’s University and Valdosta State both ended the tournament at 21-under-par 843, but St. Edward’s was awarded the team title based on the tie-breaker. Sonoma State finished 14-under in third. In all six teams finished under par in the 54-hole format.
Lucas Delgado (70-72-73-215) and Brandon Harkins (69-76-70-215) finished in the top 20 at 1-under-par, tying for 16th overall. Kyle Souza (80-69-68-217) shot his low round of the season and his second straight round in the 60s to jump from 37th into a tie for 21st.
