Women's soccer season comes to an end

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- A difficult 2008 season came to an end for the Chico State women’s soccer program with a 2-0 loss to Sonoma State on Sunday at Trione Fields in Santa Rosa.

The loss concludes the Wildcats’ season at 7-10-3, 3-8-3 in the CCAA. Most frustrating for the ‘Cats were the five, one-goal losses and the three scoreless ties this season. With just a few of those games going Chico's way, the Wildcats would have posted their seventh-straight winning season.

The Seawolves scored in the 37th minute when Jaci Davey won a one-on-one situation against Chico’s goalkeeper to put the ball in the net. Sonoma held the one-goal lead until Tracy Webster scored on a ball from Davey on a breakaway with three minutes left in the match for the 2-0 win.

Sonoma State ties San Francisco State for the top spot in the CCAA North Division with its record of 10-3-1 in CCAA play, 15-4-1 overall.  Both teams will represent the North in the CCAA Championship Tournament next weekend.

Shot totals were equal in the match at 8-8. The Wildcats outshot the Seawolves 4-2 in the second half and the Seawolves held a 6-4 advantage in the first half. Stephanie Insler was the only Wildcat with two shots.
