PALO ALTO, Calif - To say that Scott Bauhs has done well at the Stanford Invite would be an understatement. Bauhs won the men’s 8k race on Saturday morning for the second-straight year and has finished among the top two overall each of the last three years. Just as it played out last year, when Bauhs ran unattached during his redshirt season, he beat out Azusa Pacific’s top runner, Aron Rono, by eight seconds for the title.
The Wildcats, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in the West finished fourth with 122 points among the impressive teams in attendance. The only squads to top the Wildcats in the meet are all ranked among the top-25 Division I programs in the nation: 11th-ranked Stanford (39 points), 19th-ranked Cal (87 points), and 22nd- ranked Arkansas (103 points).
After Bauhs’ 23:45 first-place effort, the next Wildcat to cross the line was sophomore Brendan Scanlon (24:57), who finished 17th. Angel Marquez (25:22), in 28th place, was the third Wildcat scorer, followed by Jordan Fairley (25:38, 37th) and Manny Mejia (25:49, 47th).
