PALO ALTO, Calif. - Junior transfer Tori Tyler, with a 27th place finish overall, led the 4th-ranked Wildcat cross country team to a three-way tie for sixth place at the prestigious Stanford Invitational on Saturday. Chico State was the top Divison II team in the standings, finishing ahead of several notable Division I programs.
Stanford placed all five scorers among the top 15 overall for 43 team points and easily ran away with the team title, beating second-place UC Davis (122 points) by 69 points. Azusa Pacific (183 points), Cal (191 points), and UCLA (202 points) round out the top five teams.
Chico State (227 points) tied with UC Irvine, which boasted the women’s individual title winner in Laura Olvera (20:42) and Utah.
The Wildcats placed four of their five scorers among the top 50 overall in the 278-runner field. Tyler (22:13) was followed by Shannon McVannel (22:30, 39th), Kara Lubieniecki (22:38, 46th), Alia Gray (22:41, 50th). The fifth scorer for the ‘Cats was Hannah Dillard (23:04, 73rd).
