CHICO – Chico State women’s soccer midfielder Ali Sward, already an All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) First Team selection, received another well-deserved accolade Tuesday – the Wildcats’ leading scorer for the just-completed 2009 season was among 13 players named to the Daktronics/NCAA Division II All-West Region First Team.
Sward wrapped up her Chico State career with a stellar 2009 campaign – with seven goals and eight assists, Sward accounted for three match-winning goals and had a hand in over 65 percent of the Wildcats’ total scores in 2009, leading the ’Cats to an 8-6-9 record and a second round appearance NCAA Championship Tournament.
Sward finished the season ranked third in the CCAA in assists, seventh in points (22) and tied for ninth in goals scored. In her four years at Chico State, Sward tallied 14 goals, 10 assists and 39 total points while playing in 74 consecutive matches.
Sward is the first Chico State player to be named to the NCAA All-West Region First Team since Katherine Bagwell and Anjie Goulding received the honor in 2007.
Cal State Los Angeles forward Liz Franco, the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s (CCAA) Most Valuable Offensive Player, was named Tuesday as the West Region Player of the Year.
