TURLOCK – A steady rain in central California forced the cancellation of Saturday action in the three-day Mizuno Best of the West Invitational. The Chico State softball team was scheduled to play host Cal State Stanislaus at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 3:30 p.m. contest against Davis and Elkins College, but the inclement weather and wet field conditions – which caused a two-hour, 15 minute delay in Friday’s first day action – led to the cancellation of the Wildcats’ two games, as well as nine other contests slated for Saturday at Pedretti Park in Turlock.  A revised schedule for Sunday’s third and final day of the Best of the West Invitational has Chico State taking on Grand Canyon University at 11:45 a.m., then at 2:00 p.m. the Wildcats will play their last game of the weekend, squaring off against Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Wildcats opened the 2010 season Friday with back-to-back wins in the first day of the Best of the West Invitational, beating UC San Diego 3-2 in eight innings and downing San Francisco State 4-2.
