WALNUT CREEK – Chico State forward Roderick Hawkins was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s (CCAA) men's basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 22-28, it was announced on Monday.

The junior forward from Granite Bay averaged 22.5 points on 54-percent shooting and 7.5 rebounds to help the Wildcats sew up sole possession of fifth place in the final CCAA standings with a road split at Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. Hawkins made 14-of-26 shots and all 16 of his free throws.

In Thursday’s 77-66 loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Hawkins led the Wildcats with 19 points and six boards while hitting 6-of-12 shots and 6-of-6 free throws. Hawkins completely dominated the second half of the Wildcats’ 68-62 win at Cal State L.A. on Friday. He made six-of-nine shots and scored 18 of his career-high 26 points in the second half as the Wildcats pulled away.

The Wildcats, who had gone nearly two seasons without garnering a CCAA Player of the Week honor, are now on a roll. Hawkins is the second Chico State player in three weeks to win the award. Jon Baird won it the week before last.

Chico State travels to Carson for a first-round CCAA Tournament game against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Tuesday.
