'Cats host Chico State InterWest Invitational

CHICO – The lone home tournament on the Chico State women’s golf team schedule happens this Monday and Tuesday, as the Wildcats and nine other schools gather at Chico’s Butte Creek Country Club to participate in the 36-hole Chico State InterWest Invitational.
The Wildcats, who have finished second in the InterWest Invitational two of the last three years, are coming off a sixth place showing at the Cal State East Bay Pioneer Shootout March 8-9. Megan Chang comes into the InterWest Invitational as Chico State’s top golfer, with a season average of 81.5 strokes a round. The senior from Irvine finished tied for ninth place in the Pioneer Shootout with a two-day total of 17-over par 161.
Four of the 10 schools competing in the InterWest Invitational are nationally ranked. Western Washington University is No. 14 in the latest National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II poll and 12th in Golfstat’s head-to-head standings; Cal State Monterey Bay is 18th in the NGCA poll and No. 8 in the Golfstat rankings; Sonoma State comes to Chico with the No. 22 ranking in the NGCA poll and 18th according to Golfstat; while Grand Canyon University is 24th in the NGCA poll and No. 20 in Golfstat’s head-to-head ranking. Rounding out the field are Academy of Art, Cal State East Bay, Hawaii-Hilo, St. Martin’s University and Dominican University.
