SEASIDE – With Shelby Hooper’s 5-over par 78 leading the way Tuesday, the Chico State women’s golf team shot a collective 29-over 321 during the final round of the Lady Otter Spring Invitational played at Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside. For their efforts, the Wildcats netted a solid fifth place finish in the 14-team Division II field.
Erin Sears put up the best individual tournament numbers for Chico State and posted her highest finish of the season, following her 1-under par 72 Monday with a 6-over 79 Tuesday to tie for third place overall with a 36-hole total of 5-over 151. Hooper’s 78 Tuesday gave her a total score of 13-over par 159 and a share of 18th place in the tournament.
Megan Chang tied for 27th place, carding a two-round score of 16-over par 162; Chang finished the Lady Otter Spring Invitational with a 9-over 82 on Tuesday. Alexandra Bush shaved a stroke off of her opening round score with a 9-over par 82 Tuesday, grabbing a share of 36th place overall with a 19-over 165. Whitney Vau rounded out the Chico State scorecard with a 12-over par 85 Tuesday, a six stroke improvement from her first round performance Monday. Vau finished the tournament tied for 55th place with a 36-hole total of 30-over 176.
Host school Cal State Monterey Bay won the Lady Otter Spring Invitational with a two-day total of 22-over par 606, 13 strokes better than second place Sonoma State. Cicilia Chudivan of the Otters delivered the tournament’s best individual score with a 36-hole total of even par 146.
Chico State plays its final tournament of the regular season this Monday and Tuesday, as the Wildcats travel to Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Arizona to take part in the 36-hole Grand Canyon Invitational.
