Arakawa awarded Wilson/CCAA Player of the Week honors

WALNUT CREEK - Chico State right fielder Adam Arakawa has been named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for the week of March 1-7, it was announced on Monday.
 
Arakawa, a senior from Aiea, Hawaii, had four straight multi-hit games, finishing 10-for-15, and reached base in 14 of his 19 plate appearances (a .737 on-base percentage) to lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 series victory against Cal Poly Pomona over the weekend. Arakawa banged out four doubles, a triple, and a home run, driving in six runs and scoring 10.

In Friday’s 22-4 victory, Arakawa went 2-for-4 with two walks and scored four times. He went 4-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored, and an RBI in the Wildcats’ 13-10 win in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. In the second game, Arakawa went 2-for-3 with a walk, double, home run, two runs scored and an RBI. He homered in the fourth to give Chico State the lead, and then with the Wildcats trailing by a run in the sixth, Arakawa doubled home the tying run before scoring the winning run. In Sunday’s finale, Arakawa went 2-for-4 with a walk, triple, two RBI, and two runs scored.

Arakawa is now batting a team-high .467 on the season and also leads the Wildcats in hits (28), walks (14) and on-base percentage (.568). He was the West Region Gold Glove recipient last season and an Honorable Mention All-American, and has not committed an error this season.

Arakawa is the second Wildcat in a row to earn the honor. Designated hitter Johnny Hay was last week's CCAA Player of the Week.

Chico State returns to action on Friday when it travels to Cal State San Bernardino for a four-game series featuring the two teams tied for second in the CCAA.
