The accolades for the Chico State women’s cross country program keep coming in. This time, instead of their exploits on the trails, four Wildcats have been honored for their achievements in the classroom. Freshman Paige Henker, sophomore Alia Gray and juniors Kara Lubieniecki and Shannon Rich have been named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
All four helped anchor Gary Towne’s team to a sixth-place showing in December’s National Championships. Gray and Lubieniecki, both two-time All-West Region selections, earned All-America honors in the process. And they’ll all be back to lead the Wildcats on the course and in the classroom next season.
The USTFCCCA list, composed of 286 honorees from 106 schools, also included members from California Collegiate Athletic Association foes like Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State L.A. and San Francisco State.
All four women are currently competing on coach Oliver Hanf’s 2010 women’s track team in distance events.
