Wildcats play to 0-0 draw with Division-I Nevada

RENO, Nev. – There wasn’t a bell announcing the start of the 2010 season for the Chico State and University of Nevada women’s soccer teams. It just sounded like it when Melissa Pease’s header pinged off the crossbar less than a minute into the match. That proved to be one of the most dangerous chances in the match as the teams played to a scoreless draw in an exhibition match at Mackay Stadium in Reno Tuesday.

True freshman goalkeeper Megan Foster earned the shutout for Chico State, collecting five saves along the way. Ashley Perlman, Blake Lopes and Denni Jo Berger notched shots on goal for Chico State, which finished last season 8-6-9 and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Championship Tournament for the first time in program history.

Nevada, picked to finish fourth in the Western Athletic Conference preseason poll, used three goalkeepers to complete the shutout. They combined to make a trio of saves.

The Wildcats’ exhibition season continues at Southern Oregon on Aug. 25.
