'Cats in the classroom gets teams into the community

Basketball teams make it 15 visits this year

The Chico State men’s and women’s basketball teams are continuing the Wildcat Athletics tradition of community involvement this semester by participating in “Cats in the Classroom.”

Throughout the fall semester, athletes from the soccer, volleyball and cross country teams made a total of nine visits to Chico area elementary schools. In the month of January alone, the men and women’s basketball teams have made six more visits to local schools, including Marigold School, Sierra View School, Shasta School and Emma Wilson School.

During the visits, students participate in an inside classroom activity with the athletes and then head outside for some instructional skill games. Parents of these students also received a letter with a family pass to the January 21st home game against San Francisco State University and a coupon for a free personal pizza at Round Table.

Throughout the rest of the semester, the Chico State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will be sending even more student-athletes on “Cats in the Classroom” visits to Chico area schools.
