Those wanting to sneak a peek at the future of the Chico State baseball team got an eye-full of its 2011 version when Cody Foster singled home TJ Yasuhara with the series winning run for the Cardinal side in Game 5 of the Cardinal and Black Fall Classic Championship Saturday Nettleton Stadium.

The Cardinal team won the first game of the series but dropped the next two before holding off a late rally by the Black squad for a 7-6 win in Game 4, forcing a fifth and deciding game.

Freshman Evan Thomas picked up the Game 5 victory for Cardinal Skipper Matt Fonteno, who finished Fall practice with his second consecutive Fall Classic crown.

The Wildcats will reconvene in January before opening the 2012 season with a four-game home series against Saint Martin's Feb. 10-12 at Nettleton Stadium. They'll play 22 of their first 26 games at home, all by March 25. But 12 of their last 16 games will be on the road. The final home regular season series wiill take place March 27-29 against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
