CHICO – The postseason has been nearly as productive for Chico State volleyball player Jessica Leek as the season itself. After an outstanding 2011 campaign, Leek has been hauling in the hardware ever since – a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) First Team award, All-West Region honors, and a spot on the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Volleyball Team. Monday Leek received yet another esteemed honor, earning All-America Honorable Mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Leek is the first Chico State volleyball player to receive All-America recognition since Makenzie Snyder won All-America honors from both AVCA and Daktronics following the 2009 season.
Leek was Chico State’s most consistent offensive player in 2011, leading the Wildcats to a 19-9 record on the strength of 321 kills and 36 service aces – both team highs – while placing second on the ’Cats in blocks (52), digs (275), kills-per-set (3.15) and hitting percentage (.276). She also ranked third among CCAA players in service aces per set (0.35) and eighth in points (3.76 a set).
Leek finished the season ranked ninth on Chico State’s career kills list (824), sixth all-time in career hitting percentage (.268) and 10th in Wildcat history in career service aces (102).
