DAVIS – While members of the Chico State men’s cross country team were in the Pacific Northwest competing in the NCAA West Regional Championships, another group of Wildcat distance runners stayed in California Saturday to take part in the UC Davis-hosted Doc Adams Invitational. The ’Cats registered some impressive results on the 8-kilometer Putah Creek Reserve course, posting a second place team finish and placing three runners – Alfonso Cisneros, Jeremy Brummitt and Josh Linen – in the top 20.
Chico State trailed only Stanford in the men’s team standings, while besting Division I schools Sacramento State, Santa Clara and UC Davis.
Cisneros was the first Wildcat runner to cross the finish line, coming in 14th with a time of 24:30.5. Jeremy Brummitt was right behind Cisneros; his time of 24:48.0 good for 16th place. Josh Linen finished 19th in the 62-runner field with a time of 25:07.0.
Three other Chico State runners chalked up top 30 performances: Miles Dunbar (25:24.4) and Daniel Parker (25:27.2) finished 25th and 26th, respectively, while Tommy McGuan (25:34.3) came in 28th.
Rogan Meza and Geoff Hull rounded out the Chico State scores Saturday – Meza placed 45th with a time of 26:28.2, with Hull (26:35.4) finishing in 47th place.
