WALNUT CREEK – Damario Sims scored 22 points per game on 61.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc to lead the Chico State men’s basketball team to a weekend sweep and into a tie for first place atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) over the weekend. Monday, he was named the CCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 16-22.
The junior from Oakland scored a career-high 28 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, dished out six assists and collected three rebounds in the Wildcats’ 93-76 victory over Cal State East Bay on Friday. He came back on Saturday to score a team-high 16 points and collect three rebounds and two assists in an 82-61 win over Cal State Monterey Bay.
Sims sank 61.5 percent (8 of 13) of his 3-point attempts over the weekend and is now averaging 2.5 threes per game in conference play. He’s also averaging 13.1 points and 3.2 assists.
Sims and the Wildcats are back in action this Friday and Saturday at Acker Gym where they’ll host Sonoma State Friday and Humboldt State Saturday to start a four-game homestand.
Sims is the second Wildcat to win Conference Player of the Week honors this season, joining Amir Carraway, who won the award for the week of Nov. 7-13.
