CHICO – Robin Hannah wasted little time in getting her 2012-13 women’s track & field season off to a successful start. Last year’s All-CCAA and All-West Region performer notched a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles and piled up 2,713 points over four events in Thursday’s first day of the season-opening Chico Multi Event Classic at University Stadium.
Hannah finished the first day ranked second among 15 heptathletes competing, including Wildcat teammates Jessica Mixon, Maddie Allen and Sarah Hockensmith. Her 2,713 points were a substantial improvement from this time last year, when she collected 2,427 points during the first day of the 2012 Chico Multi.
Hannah’s PR time of 15.34 second in the 100-meter hurdles Thursday was good for a share of second place. She finished third in the 200-meter dash (26.17 seconds) and tied for third in the high jump (5-feet-02).
Mixon finished seventh after Thursday’s four events – her total of 2,293 points bettering last year’s Chico Multi effort by 184. Mixon’s top event was the high jump, where she came in second after clearing the bar at 5-feet-03.
Allen garnered 2,248 points in her four events to finish the first day in eighth place, just bettering her total of 2,246 from last year’s meet. She came in second Thursday in the shot put with a heave of 33-feet-06 and tied for third in the high jump (5-feet-02).
Hockensmith placed ninth in the Chico Multi field with 2,101 points. She posted eighth place finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles (17.24 seconds) and high jump (4-feet-07).
Ali Worthern of Seattle Pacific, who finished third in last year’s NCAA Championships, was the Chico Multi’s top heptathlete Thursday, winning all four of the day’s events and amassing 3,068 points.
The Chico Multi’s heptathlon concludes Friday with the 800-meter run, javelin and long jump.
