Head Coach T.L. Brown has grown the Chico State men's golf team into arguably the best program in the West. In an effort keep the momentum going he recently signed Matt Hutchins of Sudbury, Mass., to a National Letter of Intent.
Hutchins has extensive experience on the American Junior Golf Association circuit, earned medalist honors at the Massachusetts High School Division I Section Championship and finished sixth at the Massachusetts State High School Golf Championships.
An alternate for the U.S. Junior Amateur, Hutchings finished sixth in the Massachusetts Junior Amateur and netted a top-10 finish at the U.S. Challenge Cup – Northwest Junior Classic with rounds of 74 and 72 at Bethpage State Park, home to the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009.
We are very excited that Matt chose Chico State and our golf program," said Brown. "Matt has everything we are looking for in a student athlete. He's great young man with a great history of volunteering his time in his community, a solid track record in the classroom, and a successful tournament history. I've also been very impressed with the work he has done with his personal coach Bill McInerney. Matt's desire and self-motivation are assets that I know will separate him on the college level."
The Boston Globe and Boston Herald named Hutchins to their 2013 and 2014 All-Scholastic teams.
Last weekend Hutchins placed 40
th at the Puerto Rico Junior Open with rounds of 79, 73 and 72.
