The Chico state baseball team just played its long-time rivals. Now they met their latest. The 20
th-ranked Wildcats will play No. 28 UC San Diego in a four-game series in La Jolla beginning Friday night at 6 p.m.
The series continues with a doubleheader Saturday at noon and concludes with a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
Saturday and Sunday's games will be broadcast locally on AM-1290 KPAY. All four games will be streamed live at www.ChicoWildcats.com.
Friday night's pitching matchup features the last two California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Pitchers of the Week in Chico State's Luke Barker and UC San Diego's Justin Donatella, both righties.
Donatella is 3-1 with a 0.36 ERA in four starts. He fired a complete-game hitter last week. Barker is 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA in three starts and threw a complete-game three-hitter while striking out 11 two weeks ago.
The Wildcats are off to a 6-4 start, 5-2 in the CCAA. UC San Diego is 13-7, 9-3 in the CCAA.
Chico State's Andrew Carrillo, the reigning CCAA Player of the Week, leads the CCAA with a .567 batting average. UC San Diego's Christian Leung is second at .429.
