While the Chico State men's basketball team was making history in 2014-15 with its fourth consecutive NCAA Championship Tournament berth, just down in road at River City High School in West Sacramento, 6-foot-9 senior Justin Briggs was helping the Raiders make some history of their own with their second straight league title and 20-win season.
Â
Now that Briggs has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Wildcats they will try to make history together.
Â
"We are really excited about signing Justin," Chico State Head Coach Greg Clink said. "Justin brings good size and athleticism and a great skill-set to the program. We think he will make a huge impact on our program and in the CCAA. He's a high-character young man who fits the mold of the kind of student-athlete we want in our program. He had an outstanding prep career playing under a Chico State alum, Coach Greg Clark."
Â
Briggs is the 31
st ranked player in the class of 2015 according to NorCalPreps.com. He averaged 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots per game while leading the Raiders to a 21-8 record. He scored 21 points in a Sac Joaquin Section Division I playoff upset of Franklin.
Â
"Justin has shown substantial improvement and growth throughout his time at River City," Raiders Head Coach Greg Clark said. "He was a major contributor to the success of our season and made an impact on the court with his size as well as length, rebounding, shot blocking, scoring, and leadership. As a Chico State Alumni, it gives me great pride to see him sign with the Wildcats and I wish him all the best!"
Â
Briggs teams up with 6-foot-4 sharpshooter Vinnie Safin of Rocklin High School to form the first wave of the Wildcats' 2015 class. He's the latest in a long line of Sacramento-area signees under Clink's watch. That group also includes current Wildcats Robert Duncan, Isaiah Ellis and Marvin Timothy.
Â
According to NorCalPreps.com, Briggs was also offered a scholarship from Cal State Northridge and received interest from several other Division I programs in California and elsewhere
