Record 64 Wildcats claim CCAA All-Academic accolades

Seventh straight year Chico State increases number of student-athletes honored

WALNUT CREEK – Chico State's student-athletes have once again proven they take their classwork just as seriously as when they compete on the field of play. A department-record 64 earned California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic awards in 2014-15, the conference office announced Friday.

It marks the seventh consecutive year that the number of Chico State student-athletes cited by the conference for their academic achievements has increased. The award is presented to letterwinners in CCAA-sponsored sports who earn a grade point average of 3.40 or higher in a minimum of 24 semester units of undergraduate coursework.

What may be more impressive is that the 64 CCAA All-Academic recipients represented 20 percent of all Chico State's student-athletes.

Chico State racked up the third-highest total of CCAA All-Academic awards among the 12 conference schools.

The Wildcats broke their own record by six. They boasted 58 CCAA All-Academic award winners in 2013-14, 47 in 2012-13, 42 in 2011-12, 41 during the 2010-11 academic year, 38 in 2009-10, and 37 were honored in both 2007-08 and 2008-09.

Twenty-six of the 64 Chico State student-athletes honored have won multiple CCAA All-Academic awards. Lindsay Quigley was honored for the fourth year in a row, while eight others – Chad Baur, Sean Goetzl, Brock Kraus, Lora James, Ashley Simon, Cassi Scroggins, Emily Denton and Emily Duran – earned CCAA All-Academic distinction for the third time.
