BILLINGS, Mont. – Winning the West Region Championship is as easy as 1-2-3. Just ask a member of the Chico State men's cross country team. Will Reyes, Kyle Medina, and Falco DiGiallonardo finished 1-2-3 to lead the Wildcats to their 12th West Region title in the past 15 years Saturday at Amend Park in Billings, Montana.
Aaron Mora finished 17th and Steven Martinez 22nd as all five Chico State scorers earned All-Region honors in the 10-kilometer race that featured 25 teams.

None were on par with the Wildcats, who avenged last season's regional championship loss to Alaska Anchorage by easily outrunning the Seawolves 45-81. Chico State entered the race ranked No. 4 in the nation. Alaska Anchorage was No. 6.
With the victory, the Wildcats qualified for their 18th consecutive NCAA championship berth. They will take an unblemished record through five meets into those championships, which will take place in St. Leo, Florida, Nov. 19.
Chico State's impressive victory came despite the fact that Connor Fisher was forced to step off the trail due to illness and did not finish. Fisher had been the team's second finisher in nearly every race this season. Arturo Arevalo was also under the weather and finished 53rd.
But the real news was what was happening at the front. Reyes took control of the race with a strong surge midway through. No one had the legs to follow. Medina and DiGiallonardo were a part of the chase pack and soon surged ahead of the rest of the field.
Reyes crossed the line 20 seconds ahead of Medina, becoming the fourth Wildcat to win the regional title, joining Patrick Boivin (2005), Scott Bauhs (2008) and Isaac Chavez (2013). Chavez's win in 2013 started the only other top-three Regional Championship sweep in the program's history. Johnny Sanchez and Dayne Gradone finished second and third, respectively, that season.
Will Reyes approaches the finish line.
The win marked Reyes' fourth in five races this season and seventh during his two-year Chico State career. He will undoubtedly be among the favorites to top the podium in Florida. Medina has now finished in the top 10 in all five of his races this season.
Reyes and Medina are now among the elite fraternity of Wildcats with multiple top five regional finishes. There are now eight who have accomplished the feat. Reyes finished third last season and Medina finished fifth as a freshman.
Mora, meanwhile, became just the 10th Chico State runner to earn All-Region honors three times.
