There's nothing quite like the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track & Field Championships. The energy Chico State team brings, along with its fans, is a major reason why. So once every decade or so, when the CCAA Championships come to Chico, it's must-see F&T (field and track).
Â
That means Thursday through Saturday, University Stadium is the place to be.
Â
Winner of 12 of the past 13 CCAA titles, the Chico State men's team is a favorite to bring home the title once again–or in this case, keep home. The Wildcats are ranked No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in the West.
Â
The Wildcats will send out 32 athletes to compete in the meet's 21 events. All will be shooting for high finishes to earn important points to add to the team total. The higher the finish, the more points will be rewarded. The team with the highest point total following Saturday's 4x400-meter relay will be declared the CCAA Track & Field champion.
Â
Decathlete Phill Bailey leads the CCAA in the 400 meters, long jump, and decathlon. Derek Morton boasts the conference's top time in the 800 meters, Kyle Medina in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters, Will Reyes in the 10,000 meters, and Connor Fisher in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Â
Chico State's Dotun Olubeko is the defending conference champion in the 110-meter hurdles, and Reyes in the 5K.
Â
Fans can follow the action online with Live Results and live streaming video, accessible through the Wildcat Athletics website.
