Wildcats outfielder earns Academic All-District award

Chico State outfielder Josh Falco has been one of the key pieces of the Chico State baseball team's historic season thus far. He's also been excelling in the classroom. Thursday Falco was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, which recognizes the top student-athletes in the West Region.

A senior sociology major from Sacramento, Falco boasts the fourth-highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) among the 10 men named to the team, which is determined by voting of the region's sports information directors.

The two-time California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic selection and 2016 Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award winner will graduate at the end of this month.

Falco leads the 4th-ranked Chico State baseball team with 14 doubles and ranks second in batting average (.371), slugging percentage (.545) and on-base percentage (.468). He's third with three home runs and 33 runs batted in (RBI).

Falco entered today's 3 p.m. series opener at Cal State Monterey Bay riding a 15-game hitting streak, during which he has hit a cool .400 with 17 RBI. He has reached base in 35 straight games.
