JC transfer Kayla Taylor adds talent, toughness to Wildcat attack

Former Diablo Valley College standout joins Chico State for 2015-16 season

CHICO – The Chico State women's basketball team carries a long-standing reputation as a program that claws and battles every minute it is on the floor, no matter the result. That's one of the reasons why the Wildcats are excited to bring on board a player with the same type of approach – Kayla Taylor, a sophomore transfer from Diablo Valley College, will be bringing her considerable talents to Chico for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Taylor, a 5-foot-11 center from Concord, draws high praise from Chico State Head Coach Brian Fogel. "Kayla is a very athletic post that will really help us with rebounding," Fogel said. "She plays extremely hard and is a very tough kid. We're excited to see her in a Wildcat uniform."

In her lone season at Diablo Valley, Taylor appeared in 26 games, averaging 12.2 points and 9.0 rebounds a game while helping lead the Vikings to a Big 8 Conference co-championship and, in postseason play, the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) North Region finals.

Taylor ranked fourth in the Big 8 Conference in rebounding and sixth in scoring, leading to First Team All-Big 8 Conference and Second Team All-State honors. She also starred as a middle blocker for the Diablo Valley volleyball team.

Taylor was a standout at Clayton Valley Charter High School in Concord. As a senior she averaged over 16 points and eight rebounds a game to earn Diablo Valley Athletic League and team MVP honors while leading the Eagles to the CIF Division II State Regional semifinals. She was part of two League title teams and was named First Team All-DVAL her junior and senior years.

Taylor joins Nevada Union High School's Sammy DeHart, who committed to Chico State back in November, as the newest additions to the 2015-16 Wildcats squad.
